Well, it’s day two. It was a nice and warm 27 degrees out this morning when we walked to Starbucks (for some much needed coffee) before heading to the first orientation meeting. I was feeling much less zombie-like than yesterday…but I have a feeling that I’m going to crash around 3 or 4, possibly due to the fact that I was wide awake at four o’clock this morning London time. I think we are going to take a walk in a little bit and try to map out and get familiar with the area- I’ll try to take some pictures =)
The meeting was short but very informative, basically telling us everything to expect. It seems like we are going to have a very busy quarter. Fun facts I learned today: pepper spray is considered a fire arm in the UK and you can get arrested for using/carrying it, ambulance rides are free (although they get angry if you call them for anything other than emergencies…no joyriding allowed), and most importantly you must look RIGHT first before crossing the road or you WILL get hit by a car. Stupid British drivers driving on the wrong side of the road…
Afterwards, a few of us went to the store, Sainsbury, to get some food/groceries to bring back to the room. It’s so weird seeing all the foreign brands! Differences I noticed between Sainsbury and Safeway: well for starters, you cannot understand ANYTHING they say over the intercom/announcer even though they claim to be speaking English. Eggs are not refrigerated. They have 4% and .0% milk. And, they label their aisles according to how healthy the food is, even going to far as to have signs they say healthy, healthier, or healthiest.
That’s pretty much all for now. Not sure what the plans are for later tonight, but I do believe they are going to include going out to dinner to eat some non-English food (because English food is generally gross) and checking out a Pub or two. Hopefully I’ll make it past 7 o’clock today =)
when i said you must look left, i meant you must look RIGHT... woops. Thats what i get for taking a nap instead of proof-reading. Although... i guess i depends on where you are in the street...
